Arne Jacobsen Stainless Steel Partial Flatware Set for A. Michelsen - Service for 4 in Original Box
Stainless steel flatware service for 4, model 601, designed by Arne Jacobsen and produced by Danish manufacturer A. Michelsen. Jacobsen is also known for his furniture designs such as the 'Egg' and 'Swan' chairs.
Originally designed for the Royal Copenhagen Hotel in 1957, Jacobsen's minimalist flatware was later used in Stanley Kubrick's 1968 film, 2001: A Space Odyssey.
The set comprises:
4 dinner knives
4 butter spreaders
4 dinner forks
4 salad/luncheon forks
4 right-handed soup spoons
4 teaspoons
This is a partial set—4 of the original 8 place settings are included. 24 pieces total, each with a satin finish, accompanied by the original stainless steel box with fitted plastic liner (no lid).
All pieces are marked 'A. Michelsen Stainless Denmark', with Jacobsen's AJ monogram. The Michelsen production is earlier than the Georg Jensen version of this pattern.
Overall condition is good, with minor wear and scratches to the finish of the stainless. Minor wear to the box and liner, with some cracking to the liner at the top of the dinner knife slot.
